Day 6 – nearly my first week complete

April 6th, 2009

Quite Strangely, nothing to report

Nearly a week of just drinking juices and I really don’t feel anything huge to report. I’m missing eating, but that’s about it and since I bought my new Oscar masticating juicer (slow juicer as opposed to the ones which whirr really quickly and unfortunately reduce the quality of the nutrients in the fruits and vegetables) I’m just looking forward to preparing food with that.

Oscar Juicer: If you like cooking and are looking for a new toy, these are Brilliant.  Before my fast I made some dips – all I did was pushed a bag of spinach, a handful of cashews and  home grown basil leaves through it and poured a little olive oil on the mixture and hey presto, home made pesto style dip in less than a minute.

Raw Chutney: I also put organic onions, green apples, green tomatoes, garlic and chili through it, added organic sultanas to the mix and poured apple cider vinegar on the result for home made raw chutney – I’ve been told it’s delicious.

Nut Butters and Rice Noodles: I’m looking forward to my own nut butters and with the right attachment, you can make rice noodles by mixing left-over rice with water and putting that through!  Brilliant and it’s really quick and easy to clean.

Rose Petal Ink: I also  collected a load of rose petals from the wedding and juiced them.  I was hoping for some form of delicious rose oil but that wasn’t the result.  What I did end up with was a small bottle of beautiful rose ink which I now have in my fountain pen and is a dark purple. 100% hand made ink!

I’ll have a week of figures for my weight, fat, muscle and water content so will put them up tomorrow in a graph.

Some strange findings from what I’ve seen so far…

Origins of the saying of the day: To draw a line in the sand.  In the days of the Roman Empire, a Macedonian king intent on invading Egypt was stopped by a lone Roman senator (Popillius Laenas) and orderded to withdraw.  The king began to stall for time, so Popillius Laenas drew a circle in the sand around the king and demanded that the king agree to withdraw his army before he stepped out of the circle.  The king, apparently impressed by the senator’s nerve (or, more likely, by the Roman Empire in general), withdrew.
